Hiruk pikuk suara mahasiswa terdengar kencang memeriahkan gelaran Pekan Keguruan FKIP 2017. Tak terkecuali suara-suara mahasiswa yang sibuk berdebat hebat. Perdebatan mahasiswa ini secara sengaja digelar oleh panitia dan diwadahi daam ajang Kompetisi Debat yang berlangsung hari Senin-Selasa (22-23/5). Kompetisi diikuti oleh seluruh mahasiswa FKIP tanpa membedakan prodi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia (PBSI) ataupun Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris (PBI). Kompetisi ini terbagi dalam dua hari, Senin (22/5) untuk lomba debat bahasa Indonesia yang diikuti oleh 24 tim dan Selasa (23/5) untuk lomba debat bahasa Inggris yang diikuti oleh 20 tim. Sebelum kompetisi debat berlangsung terlebih dahulu diadakan seminar yang berisi tentang gambaran jalannya kompetisi, gaya debat yang digunakan, serta penjelasan teknis dan nonteknis mengenai sistem debat.

Suasana kompetitif sangat terasa ketika pertandingan. Peserta tersulut semangatnya untuk menampilkan yang terbaik dan saling berjuang untuk merebut gelar juara. “Kompetisi ini sengaja digelar untuk mencari bibit-bibit unggul dari FKIP. Pemenang lomba debat bahasa Indonesia otomatis memiliki pengalaman yang bisa dijadikan bekal membimbing anak didiknya kelak untuk mengikuti kompetisi yang sama, sedangkan pemenang debat bahasa Inggris akan dikirim lomba ke tingkat universitas,” jelas Theresia Pinaka Ratna N.H., M.Pd. salah satu koordinator lomba debat. Debat bahasa Indonesia menggunakan gaya Asian Parliamentary System, satu tim terdiri dari 3 anggota kelompok. Sedangkan debat bahasa Inggris menggunakan gaya British Parliamentary System, satu tim tersiri dari 2 orang.

Dalam debat mengharuskan mahasiswa untuk berpikir tingkat tinggi, hal ini bertujuan untuk melatih siswa berpikir kritis, logis, dan runtut. Lomba ini sekaligus untuk melatih mahasiswa mengatasi rasa grogi saat berbicara di hadapan orang banyak. Yusuf salah satu mahasiswa PBI finalis debat bahasa Indonesia mengungkapkan, “Sangat berkesan ikut lomba debat ini, lawannya tangguh-tangguh, mosi yg dihadirkan juga sangat menantang. Very exited untuk tahu siapa pemenangnya.” Meskipun optimis meraih juara, dirinya tidak lantas meremehkan tim lawan karena merasa pesaingnya juga merupakan tim yang hebat. Sebagai informasi juara kompetisi debat akan diumumkan di puncak acara Pekan Keguruan FKIP 2017, Jumat (26/5) mendatang.[:en]

[FKIP – 27/05/2017] – Teacher’s Week 2017 held by Faculty of Education and Teacher’s Training (FETT) attracts the students’ attention.   Many students of FETT took part in Teacher’s Week 2017, including in Debate Competition. The Debate Competition was carried out in two days, May 22nd – May 23rd 2017.  Students from Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program (PBSI) and English Education Program (PBI) joined on the competition. The debate competition was devided into two sessions, the first day was for Indonesian Debate Competition and the second day was for English Debate Competition. There were total 24 teams for Indonesian Debate Competition and 20 teams for English Debate Competition.

Competitive ambience arouse intensely during the competition.  Each team tried to show their best and fight to be the winner. “This competition is deliberately held to search for qualified debate teams from FETT. This debate competition was carried out to encourage students to speak English; to bring about a higher proficiency of the language. This debate competition has managed to create learning situations in which students develop proficiencies based on sound educational and communication theories. Further, the winner of English Debate Competition will be sent to the University Debate Competition,” explained Theresia Pinaka Ratna N.H., M.Pd., one of the coordinator for Debate Competition.

In this debate competition, the orators were demanded to have higher thinking ability. They were expected to think critically, logically, and chronologically. Besides, this competition is also an opportunity for them to improve their speaking skill and how to deal with their nervousness when speaking infront of the public. Yusuf Yulianto, one of the Indonesian Debate Competition finalists from PBI, asserted that he was impressed joining this competition. “ The motions are very challenging, the competitors are great, and I’m very excited to find out who will be the winner in this competition.” explained him.
