Pesertanya saja banyak yang dari luar seperti University of Philippines Diliman, Kyoto University, University of the Philippines, dan University of Bucharest ” ungkap Zaqy mengakhiri.

Ten Students of Department of English Education, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, Tidar University participated an international seminar entitled “Reviving Benedict Anderson: Imagined (Cosmopolitan) Communities. The seminar, which was held on 13-14 January 2017 in the Auditorium of Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta, was organized by the Realino Institute of Studies. The seminar, which presented speakers from Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Singapore, had attracted public, both from academia, society, and non-governmental sectors.

Zaqy Mubarok, one of the third semester PBI students who attended the seminar said that he felt excited to be one of the participants of an international seminar. He has never participated such seminar before. It was such a great experience. He added, this was a good chance since seminar was free of charge. He said, “I feel shocked because he was the youngest participants of all. Another PBI students, Axel Alessandro, had similar opinion. He was impressed and felt enthusiastic for the events. “The participants are mostly graduate students, but I am an undergraduate student. Moreover, it will widen my foreigner friends”

In the seminar, it was discussed the life and thought of Benedict Anderson, a progressive scientist and prominent figure in contemporary social sciences. Besides that, it talked about the Benedict’ words or statements, and his imagination of a cosmopolitan society. Overall, this seminar put forward the concept cosmopolitan as individual identity to help each other disregarding to race, ethnicity, religion, and origin. “I’ve learned a lot of things about cosmopolitan. It has three identities of self-identity (culture and religion identity), national identity (identity as Indonesian), and the regional identity (as citizens of ASEAN)”, said Zaqy.

At last, the students were excited to always be able to join international seminars particularly those, which are held in the country. “It has different atmosphere with the national seminar. It is nice to be here, we look forward typical seminar in the future. The participants are not only Indonesian, but also some from other countries such as the University of the Philippines Diliman, Kyoto University, University of the Philippines, and the University of Bucharest “said Zaqy.
